Concrete — common questions
Why did my last concrete crack?
Almost always one of three things: an inadequate or poorly compacted base, no control joints cut at the right spacing, or water pooling against it because the grade runs the wrong way. All three are avoidable, and all three are things we address before the pour rather than after.
When can you pour concrete?
Concrete needs to cure without freezing. In most of Canada that means roughly late spring through early autumn, with the exact window depending on the year. We schedule around it. Pouring into a freeze is how you get concrete that spalls and fails within a year — it is not worth the risk.
Can you pour over my existing concrete?
Sometimes, if the existing slab is sound and there is room for the added height. Often the honest answer is no — a slab that has settled or broken up will take the new surface with it. We assess it and tell you which situation you are in before quoting.
What affects the price?
Total area, thickness, how much removal and disposal is involved, site access for the truck, and how much base work is needed underneath. Removal and access are the two costs people underestimate most. We give you a firm number after seeing the site.
